Heroes & Providence

“When you are on the right path, invisible hands will come to your aid.” ― Joseph Campbell

Ancient traditions, from Christianity, mythology, to classic literature, contain stories where the hero goes on an arduous journey and is guided by other forces. For example:

1. Moses goes into the desert he encounters an angel in the form of a burning bush.

2. In C.S. Lewis’s Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe our heroes Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are guided by the regal Lion Aslan.

3. In Greek mythology the goddess Psyche is aided by Zephyr the west wind.

Inspired by these epic narratives, I’ve constructed images to share the idea that heroes are guided by invisible hands. The photos to create these have come from my travels in South Africa, Zambia, China, Cambodia, Prague, Thailand, India, Mexico, Denmark, Finland, Norway, California and Arizona.
